Goal(s): This project's main goal is to promote the autonomy of students with disabilities in undergraduate courses in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). And, thus, facilitating the learning process through assistive technology, with a repository of adapted program content, to the point of allowing studies to be carried out without the dependence, in whole or in part, on a family, educational or institutional support network.
Motivation: We know that the number of students with disabilities enrolled in Higher Education has increased in recent years. In 2009, there were only 20.5 thousand students with disabilities occupying college rooms and in 2019, this number has risen to 48.52 thousand, according to the Higher Education Census (MEC/INEP). In the current scenario, the family, classmates, interpreters, tutors, teachers and Higher Education Institutions play a fundamental role for these students to be successful, making them dependent on the support network. Thus, we seek to promote autonomy, even if partial, so that these students can develop their studies inside and outside the classroom, only with the help of assistive technology.
Expected result(s): We hope to promote the autonomy, even if partial, of EPAEE students enrolled in Higher Education Institutions (HEI), so that they can develop their studies, inside and outside the classroom, only with the help of assistive technology. In this way, we will contribute to the training of professionals in STEM, through inclusion and technology, reducing dropouts in Higher Education by this group of students.
